Investing with a margin of safety sets us apart. For the past 25 years, I have focused on helping retired and professional people protect and grow their wealth without sales commissions or hidden fees.

Rich   Here is my story.

I now have over 36 years experience in the investment industry.

I grew up in an education family. My father was an elementary school principal and my mother taught the 2nd grade. Our home life was always about teaching and serving others. I was inspired by my parents’ constant example of thrift and helping others.

I attended Brigham Young University and studied Pre-med for 3 years.  I often found myself in the library reading the Wall Street Journal, instead of studying organic chemistry. I finally realized I didn’t want to be a doctor. So, I switched my major, took extra courses, and graduated in 1970 and entered the financial world.

In 1987 I became a CFP, Certified Financial Planner.

Over the years my career path evolved to include additional retirement planning and investment services. I passed the series 7 securities exam and became affiliated with a broker dealer. I studied for the Certified Financial Planners designation which took 3 years. I passed all the tests, and became a CFP. At the same time, I also earned a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology from San Jose State, where I developed a seminar to help senior investors plan for a better retirement.

My search for a better way to help  clients.

Over time, I became frustrated because of the high cost of mutual funds and annuities the industry recommends. These products are typically not the best available and have unnecessary commissions, internal costs, surrender charges and hidden fees.

I became an independent, fee only registered investment advisor and formed Protected Capital in 1993 to serve our clients without commissions or surrender fees.

As an independent advisor, we eliminate the conflicts of interest in the industry because we work on a fee only basis and do not accept any commissions, hidden fees, or sales incentives. Our only incentive is help grow and protect your wealth and retirement.

We offer low cost, diversified portfolios to meet the income and growth needs of safety minded investors.

We constantly track the trend and value of the markets.

We want to always buy shares of wonderful business when we know the intrinsic value and can buy for less.

Our mission is to help grow and protect your retirement savings through all market conditions.

In times of market stress or overvaluation we will increase our cash positions and partially hedge our portfolios against the downside. Market declines often lead to great bargains. I believe investors are better served with PCM’s bargain hunting strategy.
